Broderick Batts

10 Questions: Broderick Batts

Broderick Batts is a talented Hip Hop artist from Tampa Bay Florida who just put out his catchy single “SheDGAF“. We had a chance to chat with Broderick and ask him 10 questions on music production, his influences and the current state of Hip Hop. Here’s what he had to say:

Favourite gig you’ve ever played?

It would have to be my first show, my best friend invited me to perform at his church and I accidentally said a curse word while performing.

Favourite artists to listen to at the moment?

I’m trying to stay away from any music at this point, I don’t wanna be influenced by anything.

Favourite track at the moment?

“30 hrs” by Kanye West is classic.

Who is your biggest musical inspiration?

Eminem. I studied him as a kid.

Do you have any upcoming collaborations?

I have couple big collaborations in the works but I really can’t talk about them at this point because I don’t wanna jinx it!

Favourite album of all time?

Biggie Smalls “Life After Death”, I printed out all the lyrics and memorized it as a kid.

Thoughts and opinion on the current state/direction of the Hip Hop genre?

I love where hip hop is going. There are such blurred lines of what the sound of hip hop music even is because people are pushing boundaries to include so many different elements from all genres of music. It’s become self-defined rather than trying to fit into a specific sound. I am really happy to be a part of hip hop in this time of growth.

How long have you been producing/making music?

I’ve been making since I was young. I would always write little raps but I started taking it serious in the 11th grade which was like 8 years ago.

What’s the Florida Hip Hop scene like?

It will actually surprise people how much culture and good music is coming out of Florida right now. When we were younger you had the uncle Luke’s and Trick Daddy’s coming out of Florida now you have a wide variety from club music to very deep real lyrical content.

Favourite city to visit?

Whistler, Vancouver — I really enjoy snowboarding.
