Mount Kimbie

Mount Kimbie – Love What Survives LP

Last time Mount Kimbie released a full album the year was 2013 and we were all just turning 21 years of age. That period between 2010 – 2013 where artists such as SBTRKT, James Blake, Mount Kimbie, Jamie XX, Sampha, Disclosure, etc  is still is one of my favourite periods of music of my 26 years. That being said, once that era reached its peak in 2013-2014 it seemed like a lot of those artists took a break to re-group.

Last year a lot of those artists started to re-emerge from their silence with new music and absolutely killed it once again, i’m talking about artists such as James Blake, Jamie XX, & SBTRKT. This year, Sampha also came out of hiding since his ‘Dual’ EP and dropped his debut album ‘Process’ which is arguably still the best album of 2017. Mount Kimbie following suit released their first album in 5 years today.

What is interesting to note about these artists’ re-emergence half a decade later, is that their music still retains that UK Bass/Dub influence that hooked us the first time around but now sounds more mature in terms of production and direction. Hearing/ observing this progress as a fan has been super dope to witness and follow.

Similar to other artists in the genre, Mount Kimbie’s new album sounds more mature and focused than their previous music. It was clear from seeing them live a couple months ago in Toronto that they produced this album with the intention of playing it live. As a result you can hear a lot more live instruments in their new music than their old material which I am totally down for.

We would highly suggest giving it a listen if your remotely into Electronic or Indie music.
