Electric Island

Electric Island Season Opener – May 20 2018 Toronto

Like many Toronto heads, the House of Lords always knows summer’s around the corner when we start gearing up for the Electric Island season opener.

On Sunday May 20th, Electric Island kicks off their summer concert and picnic series hosting a wealth of international and local talent. Established as a fairly modest event in 2013, we’ve watched EI grow into a first-rate music festival consistently playing the best techno and house in Toronto.

2018’s season opener continues that growth with a lineup headlined by Black Coffee and DJ Tennis, 2 masters of their craft. Black Coffee is one of, if not the biggest electronic producers coming out of Africa. Hailing from Durban but heading a Johannesburg-based label, Soulistic Music, Black Coffee has been at the forefront of the afro-house scene since 2005. Despite never seeing him live, we’ve been fans for a while and can’t wait to see what diverse sounds he brings to the island. We saw DJ Tennis last year going b2b with Kink at Stereo nightclub for an Osheaga AP and it was as banging as you’d expect. Tennis brought the energy and absolutely slayed his set. It’ll be interesting to see how he brings that same energy to a bigger crowd outdoors. Rounding out the main stage are Berlin acts Yokoo and Ellen Allien. Be sure to also check out stage 2 as they’ll be showcasing some of Toronto’s finest including Carlo Lio b2b Nathan Barato, Demuir and Chris Larsen.
