Phife Dawg along with Q-Tip formed one of the greatest Hip Hop groups of all time, A Tribe Called Quest. Today is a particularly sad day for me as A Tribe Called Quest is my favourite Hip Hop group, and Bonita Applebum was the song that introduced me/started my obsession with Hip Hop. One day when I was around 9-10 years old, I was digging through my older brother’s Napster MP3 folder and I came across ATCQ’s Bonita Applebum by accident. Immediately I became obsessed with the song, the group, and the Hip Hop genre.

Unfortunately due to my age, I never had the chance to see A Tribe Called Quest in concert as they broke up before I was old enough to go to concerts. Phife Dawg’s death now confirms that I will never see the full group perform live, which is huge disappointment for me.
